My mom and sister are both shopping for new cars and at the recommendation of my sister's boss's mechanic, they are both thinking of going with a Kia Optima. I'm just wondering what you car guys think of Kias. Are they good, bad, good enough?
I don't know when or where but I heard they weren't any good. Since I can't remember at what point I heard that, I don't put much value into it. So let me know what your opinion is.
TIA.

10 year/100,000 mile warranty. They seem to believe in their product.

Anything with a name that stands for "Killed In Action" makes me a little nervous...

Korean Import Auto
They have a long warranty, but there's a reason the big boys get their ratings. I'd recommend a Honda over A Kia. or a Toyota

Kia has drastically changed quality wise over the last few years for the better. The Kia Sorrento SUV is actually one of the best ranked SUV's in it's entire class. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.

Not to mention that in their logo, the "A" is missing the crossbar, so it looks like a Greek Lambda.

The first time my Greek father saw that logo, he immediately pronounced it as it would be pronounced in Greek. "Kil"
I don't want to drive a car that says "kill" on it either.

I think they're okay. Stay away from used ones. One of the reasons the reliability in the past has been so poor was that people treated them as disposable, and didn't take care of them at all. Even abused them. If you're buying new, I could see how they'd be a decent car for the money, but drive it til the wheels fall off because it's going to have HORRID resale value. Decent cars though.

Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?
