Just looking at where my spotlight icon is in the top right hand corner and the background behind it isnt glossy like the rest of the menubar, but is a flat off - white, almost grey colour.

Anyone elses look like that and is there a way to change it back?

Not different. The Extras.rsrc wasn't touched in 10.4.1

dunno, i did install then uninstall max's smoothstripes mod and i guess that's one explanation, probably THE explanation, but I can't for the life of me remember if I saw it before or after that episode, Im thinkg before as I posted in the 10.4.1 release thread about it as being one of the first things i noticed on reboot.

maybe theres a way to fix it, it must be an image file tucked away in the filesystem somewhere musn't it?

but the tiff for spotlight is not in Extras.rsrc

the main one is here

/System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/Resources/MDSearchWidget_Normal-1.tiff

so was THAT touched? I leave it to you to compare the date/time stamps

Open the spotlight package in max's smoothstripes and take a look and see if his tiff is
the one you see on screen. Maybe the uninstaller simply missed the main tiff.

read my last post. That is where the file is. There is also

/System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/Resources/MDSearchWidget_Pressed-1.tiff

and a few others you may want to look at. Like for me I changed the blue in the spotlight
drop down to purple. Which is

/System/Library/CoreServices/Search.bundle/Contents/Resources/MDSearchBar-1.tiff

they are all in that Search.bundle

Basically i installed smoothstripes and all blue was changed to purple. So the apple
on top left is purple. the spotlight icon and drop down is purple the menu highlighting
etc... the scroll bar gel capsule thing. I left everything else alone. I was just tired
of blue and purple is my fav color so.... about 2 hours of tweaking later NO BLUE
anywhere in my GUI

good luck

Tried using Max's reinstall Auqua option in smoothstripes but it didn't fix it.

Don't suppose someone (if its Ok to do so) can send me the image files for the spotlight menubar item so i can fix it up.

thanks guys

Didn't fix what? I just did that, and it reverted back to Aqua.

Then redid Smooth Stripes.

didn't fix the issue i was having with the spotlight menubar item that this thread is based on

The issue was with AquaExtreme rather than smooth stripes. It (IT being the spotlight menubar item issue that this thread is based on) is all better now.

thanks
