Anyone have a FIRM mattress?

So I need to replace my Queen size mattress.
My best nights of sleep are on a firm futon mattress laying on the floor -- it's like heaven. But I can't find that "brick with a blanket over it" kind of firmness in a bedframe mattress.
I hate any kind of pillowtop or "body conforming" nonsense. Anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks to anyone who can help.

My dad need a REALLY firm mattress and he bought just any old firm and threw a sheet of plywood in between the box springs and the mattress. I can stand on that bed and it doesn't even wrinkle the bed sheets. Other than that, I also suggest the floor.

i have a platform bed with a futon matress on top of it, it is great
so a futon matress with a sheet of plywood underneath it would probably be the cheapest and easiest way

I used to do this, as I too need a relatively firm mattress to be able to sleep... it is great solution.
When my (then) girlfriend moved in, the plywood had to go.
I had a bad back for months.
Until she went.

I love my latex mattress. fairly thin, with a layer of horsehair, covered with a rugged cotton slip.
I hate soft mattresses.
They give me backaches.

heck no... queensize pillowtop Chattam & Wells for me. It's like sleeping on a cloud. I used to use a firm mattress, but as I got older I just couldn't sleep on it anymore.
If you have a bad back, you have no choice but to go firm, 'cause the softies will kill your back.
nighty night all!

I have one FIRM mattress for you. It is a Serta Montclair model and it is the firmest thing i have ever slept on. we have only had for about 6 months and i hate it. we just got back from buying the most comfortable bed i have ever laid down on. it is a Simmons BackCare Advanced 1000 series. i am also happy to finally have a king!

Not to state the obvious, but why not get a futon mattress you like? You can always get a piece of thick plywood cut to fit in your bedframe to support the futon mattress. (May need to have 2 smaller sheets of plywood in order to transport it.)

We tested the Montclair at a local store late yesterday, and decided to go with that. It is really firm.
The reason I don't put a futon mattress on a wood platform or something is because I'm married and certain aesthetic and comfort compromises necessitate a more conventional bedding solution.
Anyhoo, it'll be delivered tomorrow.
Thanks to all who replied! It was great hearing that there are others who like a nice firm bed.
