And I agree. I love this place, and daily check the 7 subforums I care about, but really, aren't we spreading our resources too thin, since less folks seem to come here? I'd be happy to have Software, Hardware, Developer, Hacker and Lounge. Oh, maybe an Arena for the all out caged fights. This would concentrate things, create more traffic per forum, perhaps increasing the Forums' vitality.

Another question is, how do we make ourselves more relevant so as to increase participation? There are more users of Apple products than ever, we are a wonderful resource in all things Apple, so do we need a Facebook page, or, gasp, a Twitter presence? Is our site optimally SEOed?

We need only five areas: Mac, iOS, games, developer, and lounge.

We need a subforum dedicated to every poster with more than 5,000 posts.

I'm making a joke. If there are 50 posters with 5,000+ posts, each gets his own seperate subforum.

100% agree.

I'd cut even deeper.

I say you have a board for general topics, a board for computer help, and the politics board.

The general topics board could be about general computer stuff, like new apple releases. The help board would be for specific problems related to computing and the politics would be, well, yeah.

Considering the amount of traffic, you really don't need more that that.

Maybe split up the help into "iOS" and "Mac" or "hardware" and "software".. Maybe split up general into "general computing" and "general everything else".

I think spreading everything out is actually hurting at this point. Stuff isn't getting seen, which actually drives people away and leads to less discussion.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Further consolidation is possible, but nothing will happen before we're back on vB. Changing the forum numbers will create problems for thread import, and there's a practical issue. Huddler doesn't have a forum-merge or mass-thread-move power. ATM, the only way would be to manually move 50 threads (1 page) at a time to the remaining subforum. All 7-50K threads. Then hide the old forum, because there's no delete-forum power either.

Ah... misunderstood. I thought you meant sort of a "regulars" sub-forum in which you can only enter after having a 5k post count.

Yeah, an exclusive lounge. That's the last thing this place needs. (It's practically that anyway)
