GPU upgrade for early 2008 Macbook Pro?

I am the happy owner of an early 2008 2.5GHz Macbook Pro with a 8600/512 gpu system. I love having firewire 400 and an express card and a matte screen, and the machine is whisper quiet. However, since purchasing a 5DMarkii, what I really envy about the new MBPs is their native hardware acceleration of h.264 video.
So, I am wondering if anyone has successfully upgraded the GPU unit of my generation or later of MBPs to the current GPU systems. Are the GPUs compatible? Where would you look for help with this kind of modification? Or is there simply no way that this mod can happen? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. This option just crossed my mind tonight. Tomorrow when I have a chance, I'll call tekserve and see what they have to say.

No chance. The GPU's soldered to the MLB.

True. Do you really think in a less than 1" case there's room for a socketed GPU?

I always feel a tiny bit of remorse having to break that news to people.

That's okay. It was a hopeful (naive) notion.
I never used to think of portable Macs as production machines, but having experienced the capabilities of Apple's latest when it comes to h.264 video editing, I'm convinced it's a solid solution for field work.
I will probably try to sell my current computer and put the proceeds towards a <gulp> 17" matte screen MBP.

Go for it! You won't be sorry! I've had the MBP in my sig since Friday, and it is such a huge improvement over my late 2007 white MB.
