Apparently, there was a shooting at (or near) the Clarendon Apple store in Virginia with one person shot.

More to come.

I hope it wasn't in DC, because that kind of stuff is against the law in DC. It's probably illegal to shoot someone in VA too, but in DC they take it seriously. With all the lines and stuff, I'm surprised that it hasn't happened before.

From local NBC affilliate:

An armed robbery occurred at the 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard in Arlington, county police have confirmed.

It's believed that someone was injured in the Apple store at the Clarendon Market Common, a outdoor shopping area.

Police are currently searching the area via helicopter and with K-9 units for an armed adult male suspect.

An NBC reporter is headed to the scene. Return soon for more details.

That is pretty insane for that area. It is an extremely nice part of the city. I am a mile or so away from there. I do not go down to that store much since I have another one across the street from my house.

You do not shoot someone in Virginia. Here I can carry pretty much any gun I want with a concealed carry permit. This area is filled with strapped, preppy Virginians.

Wow! I bought my rev a 12" G4 powerbook at that store back in Jan 2003. I haven't been to that store since the Panther release(the Tyson's Corner store was closed for renovation).

No way a fancy place like an Apple store has any camera's. I'm surprised the robber was even able to find the cash as it is so concealed. Sounds like a smart fellow.

There aren't any Apple Stores in DC. An Apple Store is under construction in Georgetown, but it's still months (years?) away from opening.

Armed robbery is illegal everywhere. Also, if it was purely armed robbery (some news sources are saying that it may have been domestic violence), the criminal is a fool. While I'm sure the Apple Store has cash on hand, I guarantee that a local coffee shop would have more.

Don't you think that's rather flippant considering the circumstances?

It truly is. And even considering the source it's over the top.

Oh damn.

Why didn't they think of making armed robbery and shooting people illegal in other states?

There couldn't have been a shooting, guns are illegal there.

If they don't have guns, they'll use other stuff:

Axemen target Lloyds TSB bank | The Strand | Longton bank raid | Staffordshire news

AXE-WIELDING robbers who raided a town centre bank in broad daylight got away with just hundreds of pounds.
Here's the fun bit: The bank is exactly 152 feet away from the police station.
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.
That's where there's thunder... and the wind shouts back.

LATEST FROM OUR NBC AFFILIATE:

ARLINGTON, Va. -- An Apple store store employee was shot in a possible robbery attempt Friday morning.

An employee was shot at the Apple store in Clarendon Friday morning.

At least two employees were inside the store at the Clarendon Market Common in the 2700 block of Clarendon Boulevard after it opened at 10 a.m., police said. Someone rang the doorbell at the back door at about 10:15 a.m., and a 26-year-old female employee opened it.

The gunman apparently opened fire right away, striking the victim in the shoulder.

"One of the employees went back to the rear entrance, and the other employee heard a loud bang," Arlington County police Detective Crystal Nosal said.

Police are searching the area via helicopter and with K-9 units for a culprit described as a black man in his late 20s or early 30s about 6-feet tall with a medium build and some type of facial hair.

The back door generally is used for deliveries.

Nothing appears to have been taken from the store.

The employee is said to have non-life threatening injuries.

"We are shocked by this senseless act of violence and our thoughts are with our coworker and her family during her recovery," Apple spokeswoman Amy Bessette said.

Why?!?! Give me a break, no one was killed. Don't you think you guys are being a bit overly sensitive?

Salty's post was not very funny (i.e., it was a stupid joke) but it was nonetheless pretty innocuous.

In theory yes, but it looks like the old rules are still in force pending (potentially endless) rewrites and revisions.

Being shot is serious. Someone's life has been irrevocably changed, perhaps with enormous consequences. That's not funny. Being shot is never, ever, trivial, and I responded the way I did because I believe that Salty's post was incredibly insensitive to the guy who got shot. Even if all that happens physically as a result of this shooting is that they guy has an interesting scar, emotionally he could face some huge hurdles, starting with "can I ever feel safe in public again?" So no, I don't think I was being overly sensitive, and I'd invite you to put yourself into the shoes of the person who was shot, or his family. Would YOU like people to make such a lift-altering event the stuff of lame jokes?

That's what I thought, too. Duh. Guns are (still) pretty much illegal there, armed robbery is illegal there, hence no shooting and/or burglary. There's something suspicious about this WHOLE thing.
