Works fine for me. Tried some basic apps and a quicke in a couple of OpenGL games, and it works fine so far. The one thing I did notice was that my broken TV-out adapter (mini-VGA to S-video, it's not autodetecting that it's video out anymore) is once again recognized as "VGA monitor" instead of "Unknown monitor". It's still not "NTSC/PAL" as it's supposed to be, but hey...

Downloaded the 10.3.8 combo. Previously used SWUpdate to do individual updates so thought I'd try the combo.

Everything went smooth, no problems so far but have only used mail and safari. Will report more if I find a problem.

The updated drivers appear to help. I am now able to run Command & Conquer generals at max resolution with my X800 XT. Prior to 10.3.8 the card could not draw the cursor and I was unable to select any menu items.

Why do I feel this thread will be filled with 4 pages of:

1) I have this problem nobody else does
2) It still didn't fix......
3) Works fine for me (after 1 min of testing)
4) It's snappier jokes
5) Downloading it now....
6) How do I go back to 10.3.7?

The pre-binding step is taking an awfully long time (using standalone combo).

I have to agree with this one. I am having the same problem with the fans kicking it into high gear every once and a while since this update.

even with all my haxies on (cleardock, shapeshifter, mightymouse, detour, dock detox).

so when is 10.3.9 due??

Curiously enough..
The 10.3.8 update for my 12" G4 1ghz pb weighed in at 16 or so mb
The update for my 20" G5 1.8ghz iMac was 27.7mb

Also odd, was that after the update, the pb restarted in the normal way. However, the G5 iMac just appeared to log out, and log in again. It did NOT restart. Was all done in seconds flat. Fans do seem to be on though, and it isn't doing anything..
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

I bet it's because you were browsing the web, etc. while the update was going. The optimizing step takes a lot of processor and makes things very sluggish, so when you restart with everything fresh, the computer is much faster!

check energy saver and see if "highest" is checked for processor performance...and if so, try "automatic", see if that helps...

Automatic on my G5 and revs up more now than ever before in the year and a half that I have owned it.

Interestingly, v10.3.8 seems to have a rather positive fan impact on my iMac G5.

Loading the frickin' Weather Channel used to fire up more than one noisy fan under v10.3.7 (literally just tested this yesterday). I've just now started up half a dozen apps plus Web pages, which caused NO additional fan activity under v10.3.8.

I'm not saying the update makes the iMac "whisper quiet" as Apple claims it is ... but I am a much happier camper than 24 hours ago.

MP 2 x 2.8 and etc.

BEWARE of lazy installer code.

(at least) 3 apps updated: Stickies, Calculator, FontBook. How do I know this ? I have all three of those apps in a subfolder of Applications and the lame-@ss installer not only didn't update them, it put generic Application icons for these three programs in /Applications with files that were a few hundred K each (much smaller than the full apps' sizes). I had to move those three back out into /Applications and reinstall to get them to update properly. Its lame enough when the installers fail to update apps not in the "right" place ... its downright sloppy when it blindly dumps the update code into that location when its "target" app is not present.

Oh well, everything else seems spiffy ...

I have the same problem, although it's not quite as bad as Recto Bold describes.

The fans are spinning up and down a lot. The fan is revving at a higher speed than it ever has. But not every time I launch an application.

And it's not 80-100% -- it's more like 50-60%. We had a G5 at work that recently had a kernel panic and the fan is quite loud.

I'm getting some occasional strange effects with my 23" Cinema Display (old style). 6800 Ultra, dual 2.5. Text gets sorta pixellated... the updated video drivers may be wacky a bit. It's not hugely noticeable, but I've seen it twice now, and never saw it before :-/

Hrm Desktop updated fine but the iBook and the PB can't load web pages now over the wireless connection. Didn't I read something about this during an older update? What was the fix?

Turn it to Highest...

For some reason Automatic is causing a lot of fan throttling. If I set my G5 to highest or reduced I hear fewer fan speed changes.

I much prefer constant fan hum to a varying fan hum.

Well after the install I went to restart but my powerbook wouldn't shut down properly. I got stuck on the blue screen. I gave it ten minutes then did a hard shut down. Working fine on restarting though - airport connection included, thank God. Fan's running high, but then it always is (clamshell mode with 20" CD). I've just run a fix permissions and had six repairs, fwiw.
