Just curious, why is AppleCare for the iPhone only two years, while it's three years for other Apple products?

Because your contract lasts for 2 years, and it's not unlikely you'll be getting a new (i)phone.
I assume you can extend it with a new applecare plan once the 2 years is over, if you'd like.

Makes sense, but then again, for $299-$599 (depending on when you bought it), I'd like to get an extra year from the get-go for them ducketts.

I didn't get apple care for my desktop or laptop, but I will be getting it for the iphone even if it only extends it for 6 months.
Sometime this afternoon I will be moving on to my third phone (see my other thread) and I just don't want to take any chances.
I think they chose 2 years because the practical life of a phone is less than that of a computer and to keep the cost of applecare down.

Actually, I was just reading over on the AppleCare site ( http://www.apple.com/support/product...areiphone.html) that the Protection Program must be purchased while your iPhone is still under it's original 1 year warranty (read note 2 at the bottom of the page). I guess after 2 years, you're just SOL.

When birds fly in the right formation, they need only exert half the effort. Even in nature, teamwork results in collective laziness.
