AlienScape Client V3.1.rar

I am using Parallels running Windows XP.
I try opening the run.bat file from there but it appears and disappears in a second. I managed to click it like crazy and see what it says. "UNC paths are not supported." I also opened CMD and dragged the run.bat file over into it. This is that I got...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Is more than 15 minutes (the time between your posts) too long to wait for a response?

Since I don't want to download whatever that is, maybe you could post the text of the .bat file. That might help. Or you could also try copying the script to your C drive instead of running it from the .psf host.

I have no idea, really, but it looks like there's a space missing between EGUI and java

Moved it from my .psf to C drive and still nothing. (Notice, I just dragged and dropped it from my Mac desktop unto my C:/ drive. In Programs as well.)

It's just a Java app, so you might not have to run it in Parallels at all. Have you tried just running it in OS X? Just fire up the Terminal, type "java -Xmx500m" followed by a space, and then find the "EGUI" application (which should be in the application's folder somewhere) and drag it onto the Terminal window. Then go back to the Terminal and hit Return. See if your app launches.

Ummm... I tried EGUI.java and EGUI.class. Nothing worked.

You need to learn a little patience. This is a web board, and people check it when they have the free time to do so. We all have lives beyond just sitting here and hitting the Reload button on our browsers over and over to see if you have made a new post so we can instantly reply to it. This kind of attitude does not exactly motivate people to want to help you.

You say it "didn't work." Can you elaborate? What happened? Did you get an error message? What was it? Anything beyond "it didn't work" would probably help. It would also help if you actually told us what happened when you tried to run it from your C drive in Parallels. As it is, you seem to be expecting us to be both psychic and omnipresent.

Sorry, I am busy. Running my website and stuff and I am going to release this...

When I moved it, it appears and disappears even faster then it did when it was on the .psf. I opened commaned and dragged and dropped it (run.bat) in there and I get the exact same thing as the picture says in my first post but only the .psf was changed.

Beats me, we don't even know what's going wrong since you're apparently too busy to post the exact error messages that occur when you try to run it both in Parallels and in the Terminal.

Only thing I can think of at this point is to change "EGUIjava" in the batch file to just "java", but who knows if that will work if it's not working from OS X either.

Maybe everyone is done without helping you "really good."

The people who offer advice and assistance at the macnn.com boards are very knowledgeable and they appear to want to help when others have problems. But demanding that they help you on your schedule is not the way to get the assistance that you need.

I recommend being patient, and you might get the solution. Otherwise, you can move on to message board # 11.

Why'd you alter the the Run.bat file? If you leave it as it is from the download, it runs just fine in Windows. The java app does not work on the current version of Java on Leopard.

Notice, you never mentioned that anywhere in this thread. Second, you haven't answered why you changed the batch file and broke it.

Like I said, it runs just fine on Windows. Use it in your Parallels VM.

Tried it does not work. I have Java JRE and Java JDK.
Tried it on Parallels nothing.
I changed it cause someone told me to and nothing worked.

The original batch file runs just fine on the latest JRE on Win XP SP3 in VMWare Fusion. You are copying the whole folder into your VM and opening the batch file within that folder?

I wasn't talking about EGUI.java, I was talking about "EGUIjava" in the run.bat file, on the line that says "EGUIjava -Xmx500m EGUI" - the EGUIjava that the message in your original picture complains isn't valid. It looks like that's probably supposed to just be "java", which would make sense since the batch file is essentially running a Java applet (unless there's an app called EGUIjava.exe in the program folder somewhere, in which case I'm probably wrong). Changing that back might fix it - or, you could just revert to the original Run.bat file as Art suggested.

Did you try copying the whole program's folder (not just the .bat file) on your desktop, or anywhere in the Windows drive, rather than running it from the shared folder?

Make sure you change your Java prefs to use Java 6 by default. Otherwise, it tries Java 5 first and it fails. That's what happened when I tried it on Leopard.

You need Leopard first, then use Java Preferences to change the default Java version.

At first, I had it on my Desktop of my Mac and so it appeared on my Desktop of my Windows. I tried it. Nothing. I moved it into Programs in c:// and still nothing.

Here are the instructions for getting this running, under Parallels, running Windows XP SP2 (or 3):

1) Download your own file package (AlienScape Client V3.1.rar) from the link in your first post.
2) Unpack it.
3) Copy the entire folder to your Windows XP installation in Parallels
4) Place the folder on your Desktop
5) Do: Start -> Run
6) Type "cmd" (no quotes) and hit return
7) cd Desktop
8) cd Alien, then hit Tab to complete and then hit return
9) Type: "run.bat" (no quotes) and hit return

It now runs.

Assumptions:
1) You re-downloaded the package above
2) You're running Windows XP SP2 (or 3)
3) You're running Sun Java Platform, Standard Edition 6 (specifically Version 6 update 7, build 1.6.0_07-b06)
4) You didn't edit the run.bat file that came with the package

Why didn't the original .bat file run for you? Because you edited it. To fix it
Replace "EGUIjava -Xmx500m EGUI"
With "java -Xmx500m EGUI"

Of course, that just puts it back to the unedited version, so you may as well download it again, because if you edited the run.dat (for no reason), you may have "accidentally" changed other files that will be causing your problems.

Now.

We're all busy. Some of us even have jobs that require more effort than "running a website". When you're asking an open forum for assistance, you should be:

1) Patient
2) Grateful
3) NEVER argumentative
4) Able to accurately describe the problem and provide all error messages and enviromentals

If you can't do ALL of the above, then don't ask the forum for help.

Further clarification to run under Leopard:

1) Run Java Preferences (Applications -> Utilities -> Java Preferences)
2) In the second section, "Java application versions", drag "Java SE 6" to the top, then quit the application
3) Run Terminal
4) cd into your AlienScape Client V3.1 folder
5) Type: java -Xmx500m EGUI, then hit return

It now runs. This DOES NOT work under Tiger, you need to be on Leopard.
