Someone at another forum, of which I'm a member, found and posted this thread from nsxprime.com. Talk about brutal. I didn't read the entire thread (42 pages now), but there is a cliffnotes version here. Even shorter summary: Idiot spammer gets busted posting his own gambling sites, turns out he's a pedophile as well, gets banned, then gets UNBANNED when the forum recognizes huge influx of visitors, and he comes back for more punishment.

Easiest way to own a NSX - NSX Prime

Close to 200 other forums that have linked to the thread.

I wouldn't say most infamous but the p-p-p-powerbook scam thread definitely got some action its day.

The thread about the kid playing WOW who bragged about his late-night sessions on a forum then got pwned by his mom (who read the forums also) and grounded him for staying up so late is also pretty legendary....

A summary is here:
Kid busted by WoW-playing mommy - Joystiq

Couldn't find the actual thread, but I bet searching for "Brion pwned" will find it eventually.

What about that thread which featured re-working of a photograph of a girl on the back of a motorbike. It was on a Subaru fan site. Can't find it now. Anyone know what I am talking about?

I'm gonna nominate the thread where a guido gentleman told a bunch of cage fighters that they were a bunch of pussies and offered to meet them for a fight. "Lee Hottie" over at sherdog.net, I believe. Most amusing.

Just to give you a perspective on things:
Their thread has 42 pages, 2074 replies and 864,093 views.
MacNN's Hotbabes thread has [b]57 pages, 2801 posts and a mindboggling 2,315,897 views! I think this one is pretty high up

BTW, our BluRay vs. HD DVD thread has 108 pages, 5,363 posts (!), but `only' 81,539 views. This is good news: even though we're geeks, women are still more important than techno babble
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I wasn't so much impressed with the number of pages or views (obviously there are numerous threads that beat this particular one in those categories), as I was with the way that thread spread to so many other forums around the world in such a short time.

Wasn't there a somethingawful thread where a semi-retarded kid got picked on and then went out and did a murder-suicide on halloween IRL? As far as infamy, that topped my list...

It wasn't on this site but I saw one where a teenage guy admitted to sniffing his sisters panties and the other forum members found out who he was and contacted his mother with the news.

There was a thread on usenet the week before Sept. 11 where a guy told usenet that "something big will happen next Tuesday". That was freaky. I don't remember what newsgroup it was, but I believe the guy was questioned about it.

I found that upon attempting to read *first* page.

I'm thinking the forum likes to take advantage of a much-linked post to boost a major advertiser.

NOT a classy decision :/
