found some old floppy discs at home which were labeled "trevor rabin alert sounds". i recall he made these back around 1995, so out of curiosity i managed to get them off the disks and install them in os x. power chords, 2-3 second riffs - pretty good stuff.
from the "read me"...
About The Sounds
These new alert sounds were created by Trevor Rabin, recently the lead guitarist, composer, and producer for the progressive pop music group YES. Trevor Rabin composed YES’s number-one hit single, “Owner of a Lonely Heart.” He is active in contemporary music, writing music and producing projects for other musicians and filmmakers around the world.
Trevor Rabin created the alert sounds using a Macintosh-based music composition system. The sounds were recorded directly onto a hard disk, using an array of Macintosh Quadra 700/800 computers equipped with Mark of the Unicorn’s Digital Performer software.
Apple Computer is pleased to present these original sounds, which were created expressly for Power Macintosh computers.

Ahh the Quadra 800. Very fond memories of that machine.
And is this the guy who created the boot up sound as well?

he's not the guy who came up with the boot up chime, just a musician who's a mac user and decided to create some riffs and chords to use as alert sounds. famous for joining the band yes and his work on the 90125 album. currently i believe he writes movie scores.
i managed to install them on my current powermac (from these old floppies i found), but i don't know how to host these mini audio files or if it would even be legal to do so.

E-mail them to me erikveland at gmail and I'll convert them from sys7 snd files to AIFF so they can live on in OS X

i've already converted them to aiff files, and they work well in osx, but i'll go ahead email them to you if you're interested. i'll stuff them into a single archive first and email that when i'm home later this evening.
