Panther's GUI Consists of the Following:
- Finder icon (Mac OS 8)
- Menu Dividers (Mac OS 9)
- Scroll Bars, Progress Bars, and Title Bar Widgets (Mac OS X 10.0)
- Small Push Buttons (Mac OS X 10.2)
- New tabs (Mac OS X 10.3)
Is Panther just all the Mac OS GUIs combined into one?

Keep telling yourself that this is what makes up a GUI. Or go educuate yourself.

If it's "worthless" then why take time out of your day to post a comment like that? I think posting a stupid comment is worthless.

I don't see anything wrong with using existing elements and combining them with new ones in the user interface. Doing so allows for a visual continuity while also providing an avenue for progression in the UI design.

But, it looks sloppy and inconsistent if the GUI elements do not match or follow the same style as the older (outdated) elements from previous Mac OS X systems.
That's all I am trying to say. I shouldn't HAVE to download 3rd party themes to bring consistency to Mac OS X. Apple should notice these things and recreate them. It would add consistency that didn't exist before, and it would give you that nice fresh feeling of a new OS.

Hey, wait: it uses characters and numerals, too! The "X" as a graphic element dates back THOUSANDS of years.
And the mouse cursor dates back to the sixties.
My God - it's full of obsolete, inconsistent junk!

Everybody is an expert about how OS X should look and feel, but I've yet to see anybody put together a better GUI than Apple.
Please show us how OS X should look.

Tell me what is so inconsistent that a 3rd party theme restores? You have me confused, which BTW isn't hard to do, but can you explain this better with some examples?

It sounds to me as though this is an anti-Aqua whine. I present the following quite as evidence:
But, it looks sloppy and inconsistent if the GUI elements do not match or follow the same style as the older (outdated) elements from previous Mac OS X systems.
In other words, once a GUI is introduced, its look must never change. Never mind that OS8 involved almost as much of a radical departure from the System 7 GUI as OSX does from OS9's, and so he should really be arguing to bring back System 7's interface because it is "more consistent" with the original.

Spaztik, might I direct you to the looney bin?
They have no clue either, but founded their own little enclave after they got pounded to smithereens over on MacFixit so often that they had to resort to getting really offensive, annoying the mods.
Enjoy!

I think what he's referring to is the fact that the graphics that make up the scroll bars, progress bars and titlebar widgets are the exact same ones from Mac OS X 10.0 even though the Aqua style has been redone. Themes like Max's Aqua Extreme alleviate this problem with updated widgets that are more in line with the 10.2 Aqua Style:
I don't know what he was talking about with menu dividers and stuff but I believe that's the gist of it.

I'm not too convince with the interface changes in Panther. It's starting to look a little busy, cluttered even. I didn't really need Menu dividers
And strangely I'm not as fond of the darker pinstripes as I thought I would be. What is really ugly, is the icon highlighting . . . .
Of course, there are plenty of good points too . . . :-)

The icon was changed in System 3, and sometime they made it bulge too (didn't use too,) then in Mac OS 8 it changed again, then in Mac OS X it changed again. And then with G5 System it changed yet again on that last part.

Ho Ho Ho.
I'm posting drunk and I still think this is a meaningless discussion. While deep down, spaztik may have some genuine point about keeping a new GUI consistent from upgrade from upgrade he still is seemingly incapable of presenting it wrong.
Yes, I'd like Apple to polish all of it's UI consistently from upgrade to upgrade, but this just doesn't happen. However, this does not in any way detract me from Mac OS X being as near perfect an OS we can get as of today. Mac OS X may not be perfect, and yes we may discuss improvements we'd like to see put through, but we should at least present them intelligently.

You are talking about graphical widgets and elements, which constitute merely the surface of an UI.
The ways these things are bound together with interaction methods is more relevant.
For example, system wide pickers, like the people picker, are without comparison in earlier OS versions, while some OS 7 - 9 features are 'still' missing - like tabbed folders or 'publish/subscribe', for example.
So 10.3 is both more and less than earlier OS versions put together.
