Is there anyway to make the movement of files from my internal drive to my external drive behave just like its one drive? For example, when I drag a file from my internal drive to my external drive it basically just copies it. Instead I would like it to copy the file to the external drive AND remove it from the internal drive similar to when working within a single drive. Is there an easy way to do this?

With OS X you should be able to just Cut and Paste them, using the key commands or selecting them from the edit menu.

You can not "cut files" on the Mac.
Nasrudin sat on a river bank when someone shouted to him from the opposite side: "Hey! how do I get across?" "You are across!" Nasrudin shouted back.
