Is there any way to use 2 IP addresses on a Mac running MacOS 904?

Thanks.

I don't believe you can do so at the same time.

You can hot-swap between multiple IP addresses via the TCP/IP control panel...

But using two IP addresses simultaneously on Mac OS 9 is impossibe, I believe.

The Mac OS, unfortunately, does not have that feature built-in. But you can use Sustainable Softwork's IPNetrouter to bind 2 IP addresses to 1 ethernet card or to assign 2 IP addresses to 2 different Ethernet cards.

It allows you to do a lot of things as well. Among them: IP Masquerading, DHCP server, PPPoE, and more. It's shareware, too.

Technically speaking, OS 9.04 CAN have more than 1 IP address, just they all have to be 'bound' to the same ethernet adapter. So, as long as all of the addresses that you need are on the same sub-net, you're fine. It's called 'single-link multihoming' and is used a lot in web server type situations.

For 'multi-link' multihoming, you need more than one adapter AND a program like IPNet Router.

See TIL article.
