You should probably check out the requirements from [URL="http://www.bungie.net"]bungie

It states:
Mac OS System Requirements:
• System 8 or higher.
• 300MHz PowerPC or higher.
• 64MB of RAM.
• 800MB free hard disk space.
• Supported graphics, 3DFX Voodoo 2, ATI Rage Pro, ATI Rage 128 (All G4 based Macs, some non-beige G3 Macs) and CD-ROM.

So you need to run this on a system with at least OS8 and since you don't have OS9 installed the answer is no.

A drag. For some reason Oni was my favorite game for some time. Found the disc and wanted to load it on the ibook. I think this machine won't load os 9, thus no Oni.

Thanks

Classic won't run without an OS 9 install.

Anyway, though, VersionTracker says there's an OS X patch.

Actually, the VersionTracker page for Oni itself suggests that it will run on OS X too. Maybe it's been updated for OS X in the boxed version, or maybe it's always been Carbon (which did exist for OS 8, I believe).

There is a patch, but I think it still requires OS9 running in the background somehow. I don't have any of the macs in the house with os 9 anymore.

IIRC Omnigroup (who made the OS X version) said that it is only for earlier versions of OS X. They have not kept it up to date with newer versions and so my version will not play any more.

Shame. It was one of my favourite games ever but not worth sticking to 10.2 for it.

I have a G5 that was up to date as of yesterday, and the Omni Group's port to OS X ran fine - no glitches, no problems. Its one of my favorite games, to this day.

You can still buy Oni on our web-store, it plays inOS 8,9 and X. If you need any help with damaged disks we have a replacement service for the Feral versions through Feral support. As far as I know the Oni OS X port was never part of any Oni disk either by MacSoft in the US or by Feral everywhere else in the world. It had to be downloaded from Omni's website.

If you had a Family Fun Pack 1 box we included the patch on a separate CD. You don't need Classic to install the game as you can drag and drop it. I seem to remember the Omni instructions including how to install without Classic.

So have fun
