I don't know why, but I was rooting for the guy to hit 100. Anytime I saw him in an interview or film, he was still sharp as a tack despite his age. Also, to add to the absurdity (to me) I believe his wife was also still alive. Crazy longevity.

He was, as the Academy put it a few years ago, "the quintessential chameleon." He was his characters on screen.
I find it interesting that, long before my experience with out of state students at UT Austin, he attended there because out of state tuition was so much lower than in-state tuition in New York...
He will be missed.
