i want my hard disc back!

i am having all sorts of problems with mavericks
amongst which is my hard drive not displaying!
my preferences are set correctly
but my hard drive (and other things) are not showing
how do i get them back?

Where is it not showing, and where are you looking at the preference in question?
Try toggling the preference off and on again. Sometimes that helps.

when i switched my iMac back on this morning, my hard disc was back.
but my associated backup disc still doesn't show up.
thanks for your suggestion.

sorry sir,
it didn't show at the top right of my screen (where it usually resides)
and i was looking under the finder
but all is now fixed, thanks
