I love how they show the "Base Price." Instead of saying iTunes has none, they put n/a, like they couldn't find it but it's probably there. In a few weeks they'll have to update and put a Yes next to half of those, since iTunes 2 is going to add a bunch of crap... like the beloved Equalizer.

Apple is guilty of the same thing? Show me where Apple compares iTunes to other MP3 players. Apple isn't like that. Apple likes to "promote" its own features/abilities of its software vs. FUDing by playing the feature game.

The problem with WMP in XP (as with many other things in XP) is not that me as a 'power user' can't use a particular feature. Microsoft includes WMP 6.4 (the best media player available for the simple playback) if you know where to look for it (although there is no risk of a newbie finding it at all). It is also easy to get hold of and install the neccessary Fraunhofer mp3 codecs for high quality encoding at higher bitrates (none of your LAME rubbish), and a decent encoder front end (I recommend WinDAC).

And for mp3 playback, I wouldn't touch any of the WMP incarnations (I use STP - the best mp3 player I've seen on any platform). So all of this is not a problem for me.

The problem is that a newbie would not know or do any of this - they will blindly use whatever Microsoft directs them to use - not even having a clue that there are other options.

This means a proliferation of copyright protected WMA files at the expense of mp3s. It will take time but it will happen eventually.

Conveniently, MS has left out a comparison to Audion which would rape them.

And conveniently, MS is only comparing features and options they are using in their Media Player, never mind all sorts of other features that are available in other players.

Microshaft is just plain stoopid.
