This so called comparrison between iTunes and WMP reminds me that the bastards only decided on the new whistler GUI (with it's nice little rounded corners) a year or so after DR2 of OSX had come out. It is meant to be direct competition. I am worried tha Bill G will trot out the usual bunch of f*ck nuts like Bill Mundie and Jim Allchin to start a FUD campaign against the Mac like they did against Linux last year. It worries the sh*t out of me because the OSS , Linux BSD crowd have a lot of very goof thinkers and an enourmous amount of developers behind them and made mincemeat of MS and MS got a lot of bad press about that, BUT the Mac may be what you and I like because of it's form and it's simplicity but a lot of PC users really like OSX but hate the fact that Apple's hardware is proprietry. Who is gonna defend the Mac when Bill G and Co. start complaining in public about how expensive Macs are and how much less cost effective they are than PC's bla bla bla and how little software there is for it and how WinF*ck is a standard etc.

Who is going to defend the Mac and what are they going to say.?</STRONG>
Funky. Check link and read the last 2 or 3 sentences to see what Bill Gates thinks about the iPod/iMac integration.

sadly, that's what most everybody is going to say when they see one.. fortunately, I'm sure Mr. Gates has a PowerMac Quicksilver somewhere in his home, so he can experience the iPod

I love how they show the "Base Price." Instead of saying iTunes has none, they put n/a, like they couldn't find it but it's probably there. In a few weeks they'll have to update and put a Yes next to half of those, since iTunes 2 is going to add a bunch of crap... like the beloved Equalizer.

I see a bunch of features listed that I'd never even use. Feature list comparisons are crap, IMO. They don't show what the competitor has which it doesn't. It's misleading. Yes... Apple is guilty of the same thing. That doesn't make it any better. They shouldn't do it either...</STRONG>
Apple is guilty of the same thing? Show me where Apple compares iTunes to other MP3 players. Apple isn't like that. Apple likes to "promote" its own features/abilities of its software vs. FUDing by playing the feature game.

I stopped listening to anything MS's pages had to say after that "Freedom to innovate" campaign

The problem with WMP in XP (as with many other things in XP) is not that me as a 'power user' can't use a particular feature. Microsoft includes WMP 6.4 (the best media player available for the simple playback) if you know where to look for it (although there is no risk of a newbie finding it at all). It is also easy to get hold of and install the neccessary Fraunhofer mp3 codecs for high quality encoding at higher bitrates (none of your LAME rubbish), and a decent encoder front end (I recommend WinDAC).

And for mp3 playback, I wouldn't touch any of the WMP incarnations (I use STP - the best mp3 player I've seen on any platform). So all of this is not a problem for me.

The problem is that a newbie would not know or do any of this - they will blindly use whatever Microsoft directs them to use - not even having a clue that there are other options.

This means a proliferation of copyright protected WMA files at the expense of mp3s. It will take time but it will happen eventually.

Conveniently, MS has left out a comparison to Audion which would rape them.

And conveniently, MS is only comparing features and options they are using in their Media Player, never mind all sorts of other features that are available in other players.

Microshaft is just plain stoopid.
