Interesting project, but it just strikes me as being a tad too nerdy.

Just because you suck
it doesn't mean you have
to post like Catsank.

However, re the car - Why? What a waste of effort. Car's resale value just plummeted. As did that of his iBook.

I think it's pretty cool. It's pretty unrefined, but that's to be expected. Wouldn't look too bad in my beat up Civic back home, PVC and all.

I've considered doing something like this and here were my thoughts:

1) Purchase a small 15 (of not smaller LCD) that can display 600 x 800 or even one of the alpine systems to display iTunes.

2) Mount computer in trunk (with shock resistant mount) The way he has it, it's not going to last six months.

3) Wireless over something like this

4) Airport to upload new music from house.

Just my 2

The idea is cool, but I think the application may be a bit poor. My biggest issue is the very obtrusive monitor stand/holder, and that its made from indoor plumbing. But a smaller lcd integrated into the dash cures that. Other than that........rock.

Oh....and did anyone else notice he was receiving 3 bars on his airport signal indicator? Web in the car. And we think cell phones cause accidents.

Looks like ****. I'd make it an in-dash screen, an rewire a cube to put indash as weel. That'd be an iCar. Oh, and make the car anodized aluminum.

I thought that big LCD was cool at first 'cause I assumed it was a touch screen. THAT would rock. However, I was disappointed to see that it was just the hacked off display of the iBook itself.

What would be cool would be if you could somehow put together a device that allowed you to listen to streamed music and maybe news, over a long range wireless connection. The interface could be made far simpler - you could even have push buttons to select different preset streams! And if it fitted in a small slot in the dashboard that would really be fantastic. Ah well, dreams.... Until then we have to put up with this sort of unwieldy nonsense I suppose.
