I've always bought my powerbooks from Amazon because of their generous return policy. However, just when I was playing with the thought of ordering a new powerbook, I saw this:

"Amazon.com Returns Policies: You may return any new computer purchased from Amazon.com that is "dead on arrival," arrives in damaged condition, or is still in unopened boxes, for a full refund within 30 days of purchase. Amazon.com reserves the right to test "dead on arrival" returns and impose a customer fee equal to 15 percent of the product sales price if the customer misrepresents the condition of the product. Any returned computer that is damaged through customer misuse, is missing parts, or is in unsellable condition due to customer tampering will result in the customer being charged a higher restocking fee based on the condition of the product. Amazon.com will not accept returns of any desktop or notebook computer more than 30 days after you receive the shipment. New, used, and refurbished products purchased from Marketplace vendors are subject to the returns policy of the individual vendor."


This doesn't seem as clear-cut as I remember their policy to be. It's quite ambiguous, isn't it? Don't know what to think. I've never had any problem returning smaller things and have never had to return a computer. Any experience returning computers?

I just found this, which says that a computer doesn't have to be DOA to qualify for a refund. I guess it's ok....

Returning Computers
Computers purchased from Amazon.com can be returned for a refund within 30 days of receipt of shipment via our online Returns Center. Please choose a trackable shipping method. These items must be in new condition with original packaging and accessories.

If a computer is defective or damaged during shipping, we can provide either a replacement or a refund. To expedite processing of your replacement or refund request, please contact Customer Service to arrange for the return of the computer.

Looks like they have smartened up. More of a reason for me to grab my next one from the local Apple store. However, you do save a lot on taxes by using Amazon.
