I just purchase a DVD-R/-RW firewire burner with a Toshiba SD-R5002 mechanism. CD's an DVD's play great but I can't seem to get it to burn a disc. I've got CD-R, CR-RW, DVD-R and none work. I get the same error saying the drive is not supported.

When I checked my ASP, it showed "disc burning not supported"

Toshiba site was not help.

I searched the apple knowledgebase but could not find any references to this problem.

I'm running 10.2.1 on a G4 Cube 450.

Any suggestions?

Return the drive and get one that IS supported by Apple.

I was hoping for something more constructive. I guess I can use at my work since the PC's there support it fine.

Any thoughts that it might be supported in 10.2.2?

I can return it and "downgrade" to an A04 but would prefer not.

Didn't that drive just come out last month? Give Apple time...

Do you consider the A04 a significant downgrade? It is sorta, but the differences are minor, and are nonexistent for DVD burning.

If you want to stay with the Toshiba, it looks like you're gonna have to wait.

No, the A04 is not a significant downgrade though the Toshiba can burn CD's at 16X and DVD's at 2x. I understand the A05 is supposed to burn DVD's at 4X.

Also, has anyone had experience with the new Sony's which handle +R/W and -R/W in one drive? Sounds very interesting. Wonder what it's compatibility will be will Jaguar?
