Hi guys, i am trying to convice a friend of mine of switching to mac, he loves my ibook and really want to get one for himself.

But he works designing exhibits, now he does it with 3d Studio max, render with brazil and other tools..

What software can he use to do the same tasks in a mac ?

(im not a graphic designer, im a network technician and unix system admin).

Maya: test drive the PLE [personal learning edition] from aliaswavefront.com...

LightWave: the modeler and Layout are separate parts of the program. The learning curve is insane but the results look amazing.

POV-Ray Mac 3.5 - an open source rendering program. I never tried it

there are others too but those are the first three that come to mind.

VPC and stick with 3D Studio Max - oh man I just promoted MS indirectly . . . haha

I think Cinema 4D has a smaller learning curve than a monster package like Maya. Quality-wise. it should scale nicely from beginner to expert.

I recommend you take a look at Blender 3D it is amazing. And best of all its completely free and Open Source.
I would take it over Lightwave, Maya or Cinema4D any day. and if you dont believe me, check this demo reel out.

Blender.

(But don't tell your friend it's open-source, cross-platform, and free.)
