I still use Pictureviewer (the ONLY classic app I still use) because it is no frills and allows me to cycle through pictures by pressing tab. Preview is a pain - it consumes more space, doesn't let you cycle, and only can display a limited number of pictures before it opens all pictures in the same window and tabs them out. Pain in the rear. Anyone know a Preview alternative that is more in line with Pictureviewer?

What about the Finder's Slideshow function?

If you mean columns, that doesn't work for me. I want to be able to cycle through pictures that are open by pressing tab and be able to view more than one at once.

you can use command-right arround and command-left arrow to cycle through pictures in preview. or you could have preview open each image in its own window and use exposé to find the picture you want.

I'm kind of confused... why can't you just use the up and down arrows?

When you have all pictures open in a single window, you can use the up and down arrows to go through the pictures. Or you can set the Preview preferences to have it open all pictures in a new window and cycle though the windows with ⌘`

JView can play all the picture files in a directory, and will advance to the next one with Command-Right arrow, and go to previous with Command-Left arrow. It handles bitmaps, gifs, jpegs, pngs, and (I think) tiffs. It does not handle PCDs. It will also scroll with the arrow keys.

That's not what I meant. Select all the pictures in the Finder, ⌃-click, and select "Slideshow." You can cycle through the images by using the arrow keys or clicking the arrows in the overlay. You can also see all of them at once, add to iPhoto, and other things.
