Apple may be making another change to its retail stores, by allegedly ending its "
One to One" subscription-based tutoring scheme. A report claims the program will be shutting down in favor of providing more free workshops, allowing multiple people to learn the same topic at the same time, which increases the number of people visiting the store as well as making more efficient use of its employees.
A source of
MacRumors claims the One to One service will be folded into the free open workshops, as part of wider changes to the company's store-based education schemes. Brought up in
another rumor yesterday, the Workshop system will be going through changes, breaking the sessions available down to Discover, Create, and Organize categories, and making them more accessible through the Apple website.
One to One costs $99 per year and provides training sessions ranging from 30 to 90 minutes in length in a variety of fields, such as getting started with iOS devices or Mac, using Apple services, and apps including iMovie and Final Cut Pro. Current plans apparently involve continuing to honor existing One to One memberships until expiry, but without selling any new subscriptions.
If the rumors are true, then it is likely Apple will make the multiple changes to its stores at around the same time. Based on the appointments system rumor from yesterday, this could happen as soon as this week.
