A little background... I've been put in charge of a new project at work... I, with help from a few others, am to put together an internal web site to track employee information... ie. what computers/hardware/software/etc they have at their locations (cubicles) as well as there assigned location. This will also include their extensions/email addresses and other such information.
I know the basics of PHP, MySQL, etc... and I've put together a basic site hosted on an XServe running 10.4.x server. We even put together a dynamically updating cube-map with pictures of the employees at appropriate locations on the map. The only problem with this map is that when you're looking at the entire thing its too small to see the details and when you zoom in (using the browser font size) you have to scroll too much to find what you're looking for. I thought that this would be a perfect project to implement using the Google Maps API... The only problem with this is that I know nothing about it at all and I don't really even know if its feasible to do such a small project with it.
Does anyone with experience using the API have any idea whether this would be possible or not? I don't have geo-coordinates for each cubical, although they are all similar in size so I should be able to calculate the needed data. I guess what I'm asking is whether anyone thinks this is even remotely a "good idea"
I guess I would learn something even if I failed, but I really should spend my time on something else if I'm completely out in left field here.
Thanks in advance...
