networking off site?

I have the need to network a folder of site to workers accross the world. I know how to set up the FTP and website access, but I do not know how to allow access and pass to our networking folder here through a login screen type of system. I heard of VPC (I think that is the name, and not the windows program). But I can not find it anywhere.
