I have just bought a 1.27mHz eMac with 256RAM. I put a clean install of 10.4.6 ( which then upgraded to 10.4.11)
I noticed that before allowing the software upgrades it was very quick on all processes but after all the JAVA/OS/ITUNES/SAFARI upgrades it became slow and I could hear the familiar swap file noises.
If i buy more memory to go to 786 or 1gB RAM will that make it speedy again.
Also why does Safarai seem so slow as its supposed to be the fastest MAC browser (according to Apple)
cheers steve

Pushing your eMac along under 10.4 with only 256MBs of RAM is akin to animal abuse.

You need PC2700 DDR333mhz RAM.
I recommend 1GB. Crucial and Apple say the eMac can handle 512mb in each of its 2 slots. You might be able to push the limits and put 1GB in each slot, but that's taking a risk that it might not work.
