Hi,

I just replaced my internal hard drive and would like to find a small portable case to put my old drive in ... Firewire preferably.

Anyone have any links or suggestions for cases?

Hey, I have one of these.

It works great and has both firewire and USB2.0. also it will power off of the ports or a 5v external supply.

I would suggest this one because it does USB2, FireWire 400 and FireWire 800.

I like the Mercury Elites from OWC.

I always travel with one, they have good ventilation and come with an AC adapter -- useful in case you need to boot from it. The night before I travel I always clone a bootable clone to a partition on the drive --- saved my bacon once.

Looks like there are a number to choose from. I'm wondering though, why some of them only support a certain GB range?

I have an 80GB 2.5" I'm looking to fit.

The one I suggested requires you to use a philips screwdriver to remove 2 screws. Then all you have to do is plug the drive in and reassemble.

I'm could be wrong. But I'm sure the others that were suggested are just as easy.

here's another suggestion. your post doesn't mention whether you want fw-400 or fw-800 but in any case, if your laptop only has fw-400, there's no sense buying fw-800 at this point (because prices always come down, or else the next laptop you buy--namely, macintel--may not have fw-800

also, be sure that the firewire case will support booting from OS X because some pc-branded firewire enclosures have a chipset that won't allow booting.
