1. Chlorine: As a water purifier, it has saved millions of people from death and illness.

2. The printing press: Allowed education to spread beyond the wealthy.

3. Wireless broadcasting: Paved the way for mass and instant world-wide communication.

A million possibilities. What say you?

My stupid iPhone game: Nesen Probe, it's rather old, annoying and pointless, but it's free.
Was free. Now it's gone. Never to be seen again.
Off to join its brother and sister apps that could not
keep up with the ever updating iOS. RIP Nesen Probe.

Calculus: Paved the way for most of the technology in the modern world. Possibly only a select few minds in all of history were capable of its invention, so it's quite fortuitous that Newton did it - we might have had to wait all the way until Einstein for it had Newton not done it.

Except that Leibniz is usually credited with inventing it at the same time as Newton.

I'd have to put electricity in my top three. And whoever invented oral sex deserves at least honorable mention.

I'd say indoor plumbing. Ironic that the humble plumber has saved more lives than medical science.

Oral sex is good, but I'm not sure about top three. Top five, easily. My top three, in no particular order:

• Printing press: literacy and education suddenly become feasible for the masses
• The Internet: the entire wealth of human knowledge at your fingertips, plus instant communication with people around the world... and it's still only in its infancy
• Plastic: take a look around you, and just think about how much of your life is influenced by plastic of some sort. It's often overlooked, but it's everywhere.

Any ramblings are entirely my own, and do not represent those of my employers, coworkers, friends, or species

I can't believe no one said Fire!

Sure it's not an invention, but the discovery of how to make fire went a long way to pulling our knuckle dragging forebears out of their monkey like ways.

So:

Fire
Wheel
and for the future: The Human Genome (thingy!)

Since some animals enjoy oral sex, your honorable mention probably has four legs. (Or is it on-oral-able mention?)

I have to go with:

1. Talking
2. Writing
3. Reverse Polish Notation
