Anyone tried this?
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/53.6.0.html
Thing is my 12"PB has an ugly crack in the frame...
I haven't done anything other than replacing memory in the past but this looks pretty straight forward. Maybe except for disconnecting the power cables...

Any advice appreciated.

Not done that, have replaced the hard drive myself. I've a copy of the actual apple repair manual if you want it (doesn't seem available for download any more) - pm me if you want it.

Define "ugly crack in the frame." Where is there a crack? The case is aluminum. I've never seen a crack in an aluminum Powerbook. But I've opened many, many cases.

If you are saying that you need to replace the palmrest, which holds the keyboard, then it really is not that hard to do. Follow the instructions and keep track of all the screws, take your time and you should be fine.

I actually did one of the tougher ones, which is to get to the optical drive of the 12" powerbook. It took a heck of a long time, but I felt such a major accomplishment afterwards.

Good Luck!
