Can I use Mail with free email address like Yahoo?

I tried many times to setup Mail to use my Yahoo email but it got me in technical data requests like what is your mail type POP or IMAP or something like that and it simply never worked. Any ideas as how to make Mail useable with general email servers??

From the menu bar in Mail, select "Help", then "Mail Help".
