Fixing a hole?

Apple Gets Rights to Sell Digital Beatles Music - WSJ.com

Apple Inc. is preparing to disclose that its iTunes Store will soon start carrying music by the Beatles, according to people familiar with the situation, a move that would fill a glaring gap in the collection of the world's largest music retailer.

The deal resulted from talks that were taking place as recently as last week among executives of Apple, representatives of the Beatles and their record label, EMI Group Ltd., according to these people. These people cautioned that Apple could change plans at the last minute.

If that's all it is, then it's rather lame. However, I will remember tomorrow, as it will be the day I activate my iPhone 4. Any recommendations for low profile cases?

I'll never forget the day iTunes added music by an artist that every fan has already ripped to their collection.

If they would have stopped the headline at just "Tomorrow is another day" they might have been more accurate.

Is there some sort of Beatles reference I'm missing in that headline?

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

I just got mine today. It doesn't come with a bumper case.

Maybe I'll just head to a Chinese mall to check out the eleventybillion cases they have there, but most of them are crap.

Pan-European, Pan-American & Pan-Asian stores! That's just Me though, you'll be able to buy across

That'd be really nice. I hate hearing a song on BBC Radio 1 and looking it up on the iTS to only see that it's not available in the US.

Apple will reinvent TV.

Subscription model for TV shows.....

Either that or Jobs is just overreacting to finally have the beetles catalog on iTunes.

Right then gentlemen. In order to actually make it a day you'll not have forgotten by tomorrow, it's time to head for the kitchen, grab a knife and lop your testicles off.

Well, like I said, I'll remember it because it's the day I activated my iPhone 4, because I was stupid enough to wait an extra day (after I got it yesterday) just in case they announced something more interesting related to the iPhone and iTunes.

That may be too memorable for some.

However, that would render SpaceMonkey's desired prize utterly useless.

Well, to be fair, I will now remember this day for a while at least. 5 years from now, we'll all be like...

"Hey guys, remember that time that Apple made that stupid splash page announcing something that really isn't that big of a deal to anyone except technophobe soccer moms who are too stupid to realize that there are other ways to get music on your iPod beyond purchasing it through the iTunes store? And they said we would never forget it? Remember that? I do. That was so stupid."

I love this quote:

“I am particularly glad to no longer be asked when the Beatles are coming to iTunes,” said Ringo Starr.

So are we, Ringo. So are we.

Andy Ihnatko had a good take on it: it was done to try and keep the Beatles relevant (or expose for the fist time) to future generations.

Eug's picture has the idea exactly right.

I honestly can't remember the last time I got news this underwhelming.
The only reason I won't forget it is because of how pretentious the announcement was.

A lot of the time I think PC gamers go out of their way to make Apple users look bad.

This event, though somewhat underwhelming in its consequences for individual fans, is rather significant: Today marks the end of the traditional record industry.

Pretty much the last of the major hold-outs just folded and relinquished its catalogue to the digital information age.

And because it's the Beatles - a band whose importance to ALL of today's popular music is quite simply impossible to overrate, regardless of whether you personally are able to appreciate them - it's an all the more symbolic event.
