Makes a big difference, and its good like that. Apple should make more black things now. What do you think of the new front page and OS X pages?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Voted "Who cares, its only a freakin' website!"

It's just their index.html file and the Mac OS X section. Had they redone the entire site in nice deep dark Johnny Cash black, then yes, I'd be thinking "awesome" too.

Really, this is just dumb. I can't even begin to imagine the legions of threads that might be spawned if and when Jobs were to do something like wear something other than a black turtleneck, jeans, and new balances.

Oh wai...

It looks good but it would get old quickly. Better to do it for announcements and keep the black looking fresh.

It's a good promo for Tiger, I can dig it. They haven't done the regional ones yet: http://www.apple.com/ca/

There's a certain British feel to the new webpage. Ives' influence?

I dunno. The muted grays, the stark iconography. I think the clear and pristine Spotlight graphic set against black is what gives me the sensation the most. The Mini Cooper website plays up this theme.

Maybe it's the Brits who are copying Apple?

It doesn't go well with the navigation tabs at the top, which are still white. Apart from that, though, it does look pretty neat.

Stop. Please, stop.

If you're going to argue who stole whose styles and ideas of good aesthetics, this thread (if kept unchecked) would easily break 1000 pages.

The black is cool, but the blue font at the bottom is a bit hard to read.

Eh, OK.

If Ives had helped out with the website, it would look more like a toilet, since that is his industrial design specialty.

You know you've been offline a long ass time when...

The operating system you don't have yet (Panther) is being replaced by another one you won't get, (and had no idea about)

Apple.com is black.

Whats next? Homestar Runner a hardcore Flash-based porn site?

I agree. They should have matched the tabs with the rest of the front page, because they look out-of-place. Otherwise, I think the look is good in the context of the launch.

I also agree with Eug's point about the blue links, which would work better if they were a couple of shades lighter.

I have to say that it's nice to see something other than the iPod family taking top billing.

On a related topic: I recall seeing something about Apple hiring an agency to redesign their site about a year ago. What ever became of that?

I thought they were just making the code more up to web standards.

Ah. I wonder if there is any discussion on reworking the site at some point. The current look is getting a bit long in the tooth, and some pages just look kind of messy.

It looks like an aborted attempt at mutating Longhorn and the worst Konfab. widgets out there into some new kind of vomit-inducing disaster.

So, um, yeah, it looks awful.

I think it is more a matter of taste than gamma.

At any rate the blue and purple is the default colours for links.
