This is fairly random, but here goes.
I need to ship a CD to a guy in Norway. UPS wants $75 to do this, which is out-of-control stupid. What's the cheapest way to send a small package to Norway? If I just stick it in my mailbox with the full address written out, will it eventually get there? Is there some shady pirate hacker shipping company I could use that would be cheap? I need no security nor careful handling...

I bet no one has a clue.
Be happy.

Check with your postoffice (airmail for speed).

I ship things all the time to Norway as it happens

Just use your local post office, use either A or B class mail - it won't matter much in the end (a week maybe) and make sure you write in the customs report that it is a gift.

This should cost relatively little, is very reliable and the least hassle for both you and the recipient in my experience.

cheers

I bet you're wrong. Only an idiot would pay $75 to ship a CD to norway, just use the regular post office, it doesn't cost much at all. Send it airmail and it'll get there in a few days.

Just use a USPS flat-rate Global Priority Mail envelope. It's $5 and takes a week or less.

Postal shipments are inexpensive, relatively secure, and pretty quick. I bought a CD from a lady in the UK and got it only a few days later. It cost her £1.49 for Air Mail (I'm looking at the package right now). And I've spent a lot of time in Central America and had fantastic service through the USPS. They're well worth it.

Use USPS or FedEX Economy.

Unless there is sensitive and crucial data on the CD, another vote for simply mailing it.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
