Thread title says it all really. Are Google getting a makeover at the end of the week? Look at the Google homepage and you'll see what I mean. If you poke about a bit you come across a commemorative mug with this image on one side and an image on the other that has been 'censored' as not to be revealed until Friday.
I hate things like this, I want to see now dammit!

I'm not sure whether it's really be a new logo, or if this is just a five-day promotional thing to draw hits. We'll see.

I don't get what the big deal is? Who goes to google.com for the logo anyways? I mean, a new logo is a nice change, but how would having 'teasers' about having a new logo draw hits?

they don't do it to draw hits. google is already the hands down winner. articles have been written about how other search engines use it and how it's one of the few profitable search sites.
i feel they do it because thy're just cool guys. they're already semi notorious for those funny holiday logos. so i think that now that they have decided to change their logo a bit, why not maake it an event? it's not like they're doing ads...just a little humor on their site.
if they didn't do it in a subtle interesting manner like they're doing now, and they completely changed it on Friday....
you'd be like: "HOLY CRAP, GOOGLE CHANGED IT"S LOGO!"
now you're like: "YEAH, GOOGLE IS GONNA CHANGE THE LOGO!"
i think it's a smart/witty way of handling it.

I just hope if they redesign google's look that for the love of god they keep it simple. I use it as my start page not only because it a kick ass search engine. But, also because it loads very quickly and it's light on the fluff.

Yeah, those bums tricked me too. Their current logo is simple, much like their website. It's perfect, I think.
