Cool thread.

Gore Vidal.
Dave Eggers.
Ben Stiller.
Jerry Seinfeld.
Graydon Carter.

Of course, they could all bring their respective mates.

I've dined with two of them and they're both super, so I'd have to invite them to a more intimate soiree where I could have a better opportunity to socialize.

Have to think of a fifth...

Edited. Well, I had Graydon in there originally -- the family knows him (and one son has his name as a middle name) -- but then I took him out but I've put him back. He's always a hoot, but then I thought he might rub someone the wrong way.

But, put him back because, frankly, he IS a party on his own whether or not he says controversial things.

BTW, I only invited living and tangible people that I actually WOULD invite to a dinner party.

The person and why.

1. Jesus Christ - I have soooo many questions.

2. Lucifer - One question: You know God well, yet you rejected Him. Is Hell worth it?

3. Steve Kilbey (whence I got my nickname) - I want to know his influences and what music he truly loves.
4. Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn - I want to know his influences, what inspires him, and maybe could he teach me some technipues.

[This fifth one is difficult, but probably an American father figure.]

5. Thomas Jefferson - I'd want to ask him if America is what he envisioned, and how he would change the country if he could.

Interesting question, at first i wasn't going to bother to respond, but on second though I'll give it a shot. Given the opportunity, I might dine with jesus just to find out of any of this religion stuff is true, i doubt it. However, and there is a chance I'll end up in hell for it, but there is no room for Jesus at my table. :-)

Ok hmmmm

1) Dariane :-)
2) Bill Clinton (Sitting away from her!!!)
3) Steve Jobs (I hope he doesn't hijack MY dinner party)
4) Nas (Yes Nas)
5) hmmmmmmmmm I had to think about this one

Old Diry Bastard? noooo

Bush..... nooooo I wanna make sure I'm the dumbest one there ;-)

I don't know thats a tough one, JFK is a good one, though politic boor me. Maybe David Blain, he'd have us all mystified. You should have seen him on Conan, Coney was just about shitting himself!!! Andy was there too, it was a while ago.

Kick ass selections! But I'd invite Bowie instead of Billy, might as well get the original.

You'd also better make sure you've got some primo smoke on hand... and a lot of it.

Slash - I'd try to weasel a guitar lesson out of him while he's over.

Ex-Girlfriend - We're still really close, it'd just be polite.

Nikki Sixx - Motley. Crue.

Wolverine - A few things I need cleared up.

Hunter S. Thompson - Why not?

Scaught...

but I'd like DS.com, boots and not a few others to be in there, too. OK. So that's a bigger dinner party, then. Oh, and I ain't cooking. Catered. I am not throwing myself out for such intense scrutiny on that point.

I think it would be quite enjoyable. We'll schedule it.

Still. Right. If we are going for ANYONE through history...

Kit Marlowe and Bill Shakespeare. Definites.
Tom Waits. No doubt.
Vonnegut. Oooo. Or Harry Shearer. Son House.

Hm. Last one. Torn.
I mean, I REALLY want the wife to be there. But if she said, "no honey, it is YOUR little party- you invite the guests," I guess it would be a serious tossup between
John Coltrane
Bach
Kerouac
Anthony Hopkins
Jim Morrison.

Huh. I guess I'll just send the invitation and see who shows up.

I'm going to pull your head off because I don't like your head.

I'd love to have an antagonism-generating guest list, myself. Something like this:

George W. Bush
Donald Rumsfeld
Ralph Nader
Noam Chomsky
Naomi Klein

3-2 makes it unbalanced, but I'm pretty sure that there would be some VERY heated debate in between rounds of turkey and mashed potato. I'd almost suspect that someone would end up dead.
