Noting that the official release is a still a few months away, entrepreneur Kim Dotcom revealed the name of his new music service today. Titled "Baboom," Dotcom claims that artists are given unprecedented control over their works, saying that an "entire career can be managed on Baboom." Additionally, he claims that "artists never had more freedom, transparency and control," over their art than on the as-yet-unreleased service.

Prior to the raid on Dotcom's former venture, storage locker Megaupload, and his arrest in January of 2012, Dotcom had revealed that he was working on a music service. A video supporting the Megaupload service included P Diddy, Will.i.am, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, the artist previously known as Snoop Dogg, Macy Gray, Chris Brown, The Game, and Mary J Blige was released in late 2011 with many artists claiming to use the service producing music.

According to the report at Torrent Freak, Dotcom claims to have "top artists" lined up at the launch of the service. Initially, the offering will be ad-supported, with an ad-free version available as a subscription service. Dotcom believes that the "free music" model will reduce piracy, and he will be able to provide artists' compensation commensurate with contributions and value to the service.

No release date or subscription cost is available as of yet. The frequency of ads on the "free" service has not been disclosed either.

And what is the artist/songwriter percentage? Is this just another Pandora/Spotify replace the record companies and still rape the artist scheme?
