I got an offer to pick up an ibook g3 700mhz 128 mb ram for 300. I dont really consider myself a power user. I mainly just surf the web, read email and rarely photoshop. My question is this a steal or should I just get a g4. I really just want to run tiger and get familar with the Mac OS X again before I switch my entire setup to macs.

do you find it suitable for the most common tasks. I had an ibook 500mhz a few years back and it was kinda slow surfing the web compared to my shitbox ( old pc ). But when I purchased this ibook OS X was still so new and not optimized . No quartz extreme ect. Im just wondering will tiger and more ram make this the laptop that I need to get the job done.

sounds like a good deal to me, but you will need more ram for sure. apple's website says you need at least 256 to run tiger.

Add a 512mb chip and it will run Tiger pretty well. Very good computer for the price!
(Don't even think about running Mac OS X if you don't add memory. Even 256mb is not enough. The minimum is 512mb).

I actually ran os x with 384mb when I had my original ibook. It was okay but I found myself using os 9 just because it was so much quicker.
