How do you know he doesn't have a mouth full of worms? You know what they say about assuming and asses, unless "mouth full of worms" was supposed to be a racist slur?

I guess this is as good a time as any to admit that I'm Cody. I opened this account a while ago to have a "male" pseudonym in order that people would take my views more seriously (I didn't want to be seen as a crazy right-wing lady a la Monique). Come to think of it, I should have chosen a more masculine name, but I guess the jig is up.

Don't let this thread get too far off track on my account!

Your posts aren't mental enough or self-absorbed enough (notice I said enough; most of your posts are definitely mental or self-absorbed) for you to be Cody.

Well, if you really are Cody Dawg, you will remember that many times in the past I have expressed similar disgust at your off-the-wall posting behavior so my reiteration of these comments now should come as no surprise to you.

I suppose one would be circumventing the “No threads about other members” rule if one posts a thread about another member that is actually themselves. Right?

That’s just weird. Who the hell ever used ‘nonplussed’ to mean ‘indifferent’ or ‘unfazed’? That makes no sense. (And yet, I see that even the OS X dictionary includes it. )

P.S.: This thread could have been so great. Such a shame.

I was a bit nonplussed about it myself (<-- see what I did there?). I always correct people when they use the word incorrectly, it's a pet peeve of mine. Most people just accept that the definition is not what they thought it was and go about their business, but this guy was rather militant in defense of his ignorance. For your viewing pleasure, I shall provide the transcript of the conversation. It went thusly:
___________
It started out with someone pointing out that 'baited breath' should have been 'bated breath'.

Random commenter: Like the word, nonplussed. It can now mean that you are unaffected or that you can't handle any more.... I use it all the time to confuse my friends!

Dumbass: Nonplussed always means "unaffected". It's never used in modern english to mean anything else. So your effort to confuse your friends is silly.

Me: Um... no it doesn't. It means what it means and nothing more. What's silly is that people continue to use words incorrectly, and think that it is okay to do so. If I hear the word used incorrectly, I think "this person should take a remedial English class so they don't sound like a dumbass".

Dumbass: Don't you dare ****ing tell me what I know and don't know about language. I can PROMISE you that I'm a better writer than you'll ever be in every single way.

In my part of North America, "nonplussed" has since the day I was born been used to mean totally indifferent to, or unperturbed about a situation.

I understand it also means "totally confused about something" but nobody around here ever uses it in that fashion. Like it or not language is a dynamic and mobile thing. Words change, definitions change, all based on useage. You can try to fight it but it accomplishes nothing and just makes you look like some sort of ****ing insecure language nazi who's using the fact that he owns a ****ing reference book to cover up for his intellectual insecurities.

Don't try to tell me I'm wrong about it when I'm just relating the fact that in my part of the world, this is how the word is used.

note- in the first post, stupid dumbass said "nonplussed ALWAYS means..." but now claims "also means"

Me: Wow, who has the insecurities here? I bet you're a fan of irregardless as well, ain't ya? You may be the bestest writer ever, but in your part of North America, since the day you were born, they have used the word incorrectly and sounded stupid while doing so.

I am curious though, why is it that they started using the word incorrectly on the day you were born? Odd...

Anyway, I did some research for you.

http://thinkexist.com/dictionary/meaning/nonplus/
http://www.audioenglish.net/dictionary/nonplussed.htm

P.S. You may be a super wicked great writer and all, obviously far better than myself, but you seem a bit high-strung. Overly excitable, if you will. Why don't you take a step back from your computer, take a deep breath, and go blow yourself.
____________

Sadly, at this point the dumbass collected his toys and went home. I guess I could claim victory, but it rings hollow. I had some great stuff lined up for the next round, and someone had laid a 'begs the question' trap, but he didn't take the bait (or bate, if you will). I was quite looking forward to verbally smacking this tard around for the rest of the night. I had to watch watch In Bruges instead.

I still don't understand why the definition changed on the day this dumbass was born. I was really hoping for an explanation of that phenomenon. Or did I just read that wrong because he's by far the superior writer?

I'm also changing the name of this thread to "Life, Sockpuppets, and Everything Else" and it no longer has a specific topic. This thread is now open to any and all topics (within the rules of course) and it is my fervent desire to see it go on for many hundreds of pages and outlive us all. Or at least outlive you all, as I plan on being around a good long time. Cuz I've got big plans that have yet to come to fruition.
