Apple stock.

Remember last week when it was in the 80s? Now it's in the 40s. What happened? iTMS DRM broken? Minis aren't selling? Microsoft takeover rumors?

During the last split in 2000, the stock fell from $125 down to almost $80 between the time the split was announced and the split took effect. So this time around I bought some puts as insurance expecting the same thing to happen. Oh well.

I'm not complaining, though. It looks like there's a lot of strength to iPod sales, and nobody is forcasting doom and gloom for the company anymore. I certainly think there are worse stocks to buy right now.

Which analysts are saying that? I know of one that has them at $100 pre-split ($50 post-split). If it's someone reputable with some concrete analysis, I may give buying some thought.

Check the date of his predicion--2/28/05. That was a pre-split prediction. Taking the split into account, his prediction is $47.

I don't think so, because 2/28 was the day the split happened. It also said he raised his target from 73 to 94 that day. 73 is well below the pre-split price of the stock (it was in the mid- to high-80s).

Not when he made the $73 prediction it wasn't, and now that it is too low he upgraded it. Right now the stock is at about $45 post-split and you're telling me this guy thinks it'll get to $97? I doubt that. If it happens great, but I think those target numbers are pre-split.

Hmm, maybe you're right. It just seems odd that he let his target stay well below the actual price for so long. It's been steadily over 73 for a month.

If you can sock away a little bit of money at a time, go to places like www.sharebuilder.com and www.buyandhold.com .

They will let you buy stock a little bit at a time. That's how I bought mine at first.
It took a few years, but after a while I had quite a little portfolio built up.

Just be careful with the fees. Commissions and monthly fees can eat away at your investment, and since you're putting in a little at a time you may not realize it.

Certainly no one here does, but there are many people elsewhere who do. That's exactly what makes The Dastardly Duo so dangerous: they've garnered a measure of respectability that they do not deserve.
