Ok, so CrossOver has been released.
They rate Counterstrike as "Bronze."
Does this mean I can finally play CS on my Mac--without having to sully it by installing windows, that is?
I'm all a flutter until I can test this out.

I've tried it...the engine runs, but currently you can't connect to the servers on the net. They told me that getting CS working was a "critical priority" and that they were working on it. I've got Steam downloading HL2 now, but I doubt my MacBook will be able to load it.

I'm having a helluva time getting HL2 to run. It boots, and it opens, but getting it full screen to the right resolution is a pain.

Well, this technology is obviously not ready for prime time. This is the achilles heel of the entire Linux community. Everything requires tinkering. I'm going to stick it out and see if they can get CS working for me. That'll be worth the trouble. I miss that game so much and even playing on an empty level on my Mac felt so cool...you know, for like a minute. Getting online would be great.
Now that Civ 4: Warlords is coming out, I may be able to play my two favorite games on my Mac, and that prospect makes me all warm and fuzzy all over.

I can't get HL2 to run at all. I just get a white screen. But then, I'm on a lowly MacBook, so I was expecting much anyway.
I just wish CS would work.

It runs here, but with glitches. The white screen gives way to the title screen, and I can start a game and hear the intro sequence, but once it actually drops you on the train it crashes.

Well, I'm go with CS. I put in almost three hours! For some reason you can only connect to network servers by typing the address in manually through the console...it's a mildly inconvenient extra step, but once it's over--CS bliss!

Sorry, bud, I'm running old fashioned CS 1.6.
I don't own Source, so I haven't tried. I could not get HalfLife 2 to run, so I'm assuming that Source would not play either. It is only a MacBook.
Looking at your "current" I'd say you're probably go, but what the hell is that machine? New Mac Pro? but with 10.4.6?
Huh?

I guess I don't really understand the point of this since the new intel macs come with boot camp. Now if this program were running on PowerPC based computers, that'd be great.

The point is that bootcamp requires rebooting your whole machine.
The other point is that bootcamp requires a copy of Windows.
Yet another point is that even parallels requires a copy of Windows.
What's more of a point is that parallels runs in emulation.
So, this software offers a way to run (some) programs natively, inside OSX without rebooting and without giving Microsoft one stinkin' dollar.
For me, that's good news.

ok well check this link CodeWeavers - Compatibility - Tips and Tricks - Counter-Strike Source that helps a smidge and that'll help with running HL2 as well
another thing to add into launch options if your having a difficult time getting stuff to launch is to specify the DirectX type "-dxlevel 8.0" in Launch Options. 8.0 will make it a little more pixelated so boo on that count but it runs very smooth. i can run "-dxlevel 9.0" just fine though but it does help to specify.
and for those people too poor or um cheap to buy steam games...google search PacSteam (join their forum)
install regular steam first, and then pacsteam in the SAME bottle and same steam folder. and tada...

What's a correct point is that Parallels is virtualization, not emulation.

… but more to the point is that it doesn't take advantage of the video card and is useless for gaming, which I assume was what he meant.
