I have a couple games that run slowly on my computer, such as prototype. I have a macbook version 10.5.8 with a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory. Is there any way to adjust the settings on my video card, ram chip, or something? Or do I have to upgrade my ram/video card/computer.

I'm assuming you're playing this in Windows? Based on the system requirements for the game, your processor is below the recommend specs and your video "card" (you have an integrated graphics processor that shares memory with your on-board RAM) is woefully underpowered.
You need a new computer.

I'm actually playing a mac version. Is there a way to buy a new video card or more ram or something instead of getting an entirely new computer?

You can upgrade the RAM, but depending on exactly which Macbook you have, it may only be able to recognize 3 GB of RAM total.
And there's no way to upgrade the Video card, which is probably the component that needs the most help in making the game playable. Your best bet is a new computer.

If you have Windows installed, try the game there. With some of the games on Steam I've seen dramatic differences in performance due to OS X's [censored] drivers.
