Has everybody lost interest in creating Themes for OS X?
Or is it because everything needs to be redone for Leopard (Vectors)?

What's up with the "big" features which were planned (but never really announced) for ShapeShifter?
Is Unsanity working on a Leopard update for ShapeShifter, or do they need the final version first, or did they lost interest in it?
I'm just curious wasn't in here for a long time and saw no new theme announcements. :/

You've obviously missed the release of NickelCobalt 1.0 yesterday.

And if you're missing all the theme announcements, maybe it's time you pay a visit to MacThemes Forums :: Index don't you think?

I like that you pick on the one post that actually has a pretty decent answer and ignore the rest of us.

PS - I like what you did there, asked a question about sarcasm with sarcasm.

Here's a quick history of the Mac OS X theme world, and possibly an explanation as to why there are no new themes:
  • Mac OS X Jaguar released, world in awe of resizing dock and cartoon puff cloud.
  • Theme Changer released, the-not-so-safe way to change themes in Mac OS X.
  • MacNN GUI Customization becomes forum of choice for early themers.
  • Max Rudberg becomes first (and still greatest) aqua modder with Brushed, Smooth Stripes, etc.
  • BBX announces you-know-what, never heard from again.
  • Adam Betts releases Pez, forums not impressed.
  • Swiz releases PowerMetal, GUiPOD, Cappuccino, etc.
  • Max releases Aluminum Alloy, shows everyone who is boss.
  • Brief craze over Digital Device.
  • Resexcellence in what would become its glory-days.
  • ShapeShifter Teaser claims that "everything changes"
  • Mac OS X Panther released, the return of Labels goes unnoticed.
  • GuiKit becomes industry standard, brief outrage over Unsanity's theming monopoly.
  • MacThemes is conceived, brief craze over Apple-logo-shaped-berets.
  • Adam Betts begins playing WoW, only reappears once.
  • MacNN GUI Customization becomes virtual ghost town following the premier of MacThemes Forums.
  • MacThemes first contest announced, first place winner "NickelCobalt" finally released just yesterday, only three years late. Notables include Paper & Plastic and Sweet Slumber.
  • David Lanham becomes super star following the release of Somatic.
  • Notables during this time include Latium, COTL Studios, XiAP, Xanthic's TiSkin, Fear Platinum 3, and my contribution: GrapeTunes.
  • Makki begins bastardizing themes with his terrible mods.
  • digitaljames begins creating incredible theme mods, never releases one to public.
  • Niqu released, impresses forums and unfortunately becomes last decent theme to be ever be created.
  • Decline in productivity following the release of Mac OS X Tiger, Dashboard Widgets become the new black.
  • Swiz is never heard from again, assumed dead or in Mexico.
  • Max briefly hired by The Iconfactory, but is subsequently fired after showing up to work drunk, currently works in meat-packing plant in western Slovakia.
  • COTL Studios is lost in an ice storm that originated in Canada.
  • VanillaSoap ceases updates when Rick Patrick forgets password.
  • RAD.E.8 Studios burned down in terrible boat collision.
  • XiAP converts to Hasidic Judaism, ceases using computer.
  • Adam Betts makes brief appearance to forums while update for WoW is downloading, never heard from again.
  • DSKY and David Lanham only living themers after the GUI Massacre of 2006.
  • Every theme released since Niqu=Bad Niqu imitation with equally uninspired futuristic-sounding names.
That about sums it up, wouldn't you say?

Well you've twisted reality quite often there, but it was a fun read indeed.

Themeing is a bitch: you work your ass off for months trying to come up with something nice, for free, and you see your efforts shredded to pieces in minutes by pimply 14-year olds with no signs of social life outside their bedrooms.

We've lost the best themers because of this. Sad, but true...

Cheers!!!

You missed the impact that a gentleman named Gerrit made on most of us by intoducing minimalism as "cool" following his authorized MOD of IZAWA's plaster and Swiz's Orbital. His creations are missed. He too was, for personal reasons, part of the GM2006...

any plans to update GrapeTunes? I used that one alot.

I think the fact of the matter is that Aqua has become un-theme-able.

Jaguar:
Pinstripes
Brushed Metal
-It was ugly, simple and therefore ripe for theming.

Tiger:
Pinstripes (CandyBar)
Brushed Metal (Address Book, Finder)
Toolbar Unified (System Preferences)
Gray button Toolbar Unified (Mail)
iLife '06 Plastic/Metal (iPhoto, iWeb)
Gray/Black (iTunes 7)
-Too complicated, bloated, un-theme-able.
