I've tried to download several files using IE, and many times it stops while it is trying to set passive ftp file transfer, and it eventually returns an error. Why can't it start the download. Does anyone know what prefs I can change to do this. I know that IE for OS9 works fine on all the same files.

One download that is problematic is the ppc-darwin 1.2 CLI version of SETI@Home. See if it works for you. None of the mirros work for me.

have you tried curl or ncftp or wget in pasv mode to see
if the problem is absolutely IE's fault?

Occassionally for me, IE tries to download to a non-existent folder "". Usually I select the failed download, click the "change" button, choose my Desktop (the default location, which is also the download location set in IE's prefs), and then click the "reload" button. Everything then is OK.

Why does IE forget about my Desktop? Good question!
