When I want to disconnect an external HD, I first eject it via right click-Eject, and wait a couple of minutes before unplugging. The HD icon disappears in a second or two after the Eject. When I unplug the HD, it's spun down and the light is not blinking. Yet I get that message a lot of the time. This happens with multiple HDs, which work fine after I OK the error message. Oh, and the disks have all been checked before ejecting by DiskWarrior and are fine. Any ideas?

Do these drives have multiple partitions? If so, are you ejecting all the partitions?

Some do, so I use Option right click Eject which then says Eject 2 partitions.

I used to see this frequently with a flash drive. I now use Growl + HardwareGrowler which will display a notification when the partition(s) actually unmount.
