I feel like an idiot but I've searched the forums, I've looked on Google and I can't find how to open the Apple Hardware Test. I have the OS X install CD. I boot to the CD. But from there I just cannot find it. Please help. Thanks.

Read the manual that came with your computer. This is what it says for mine - I assume it is going to be the same or similar for yours:
To use Apple Hardware Test:
1 Disconnect all external devices from your computer. If you have an Ethernet cable
connected, disconnect it.
2 Start up your computer using Apple Hardware Test. Insert the first software install and
restore disc into your computer. Then restart your computer and hold down the Option
key as it starts up.
A list of available startup volumes appears. Click Apple Hardware Test and click the
right arrow.
3 When the Apple Hardware Test main screen appears, follow the onscreen instructions.
4 If Apple Hardware Test detects a problem, it displays an error code. Make a note of the
error code before pursuing other support options. If Apple Hardware Test does not
detect a hardware failure, the problem may be software-related.
For more information about Apple Hardware Test, see the Apple Hardware Test Read
Me file on the first software install and restore disc.

In my Install Software disc itself states something along the lines "To start in Apple Hardware Test hold the D key when starting the computer with the disc inserted". Since some time ago Apple merged the Hardware Test into the Install Software discs.

Maybe it's because I didn't disconnect all external devices but when I booted up by holding down the Option key, the thing w. the right arrow appeared but only The Harddrive and the install CD were options.

What Mac do you have and what OS X disk are you using? If it's a retail one you bought later then I don't think it will be on there, most Macs came with a separate disk with it on.

Okay I have no clue where that other CD is then. I'll need to see if someone has it. Thanks.

The retail version of OSX does not have the Apple Hardware test. You need to use the original CD/DVD that came with your computer.

Yea, retail OS X discs do not have the Apple Hardware Test. It will be on the discs that come with your computer. If it's not an intel mac, you can boot holding down the option key (if it is an intel mac, boot holding down D). You will get to the multi-boot screen. Choose Apple Hardware Test. Choose the one with "Open Firmware" or "OF" in it. (intel macs will boot directly into AHT without multi-boot screen)
