Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!"

Gore, who was introduced by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, said the world faces a "full-scale climate emergency that threatens the future of civilization on earth."

Gore showed computer-generated projections of ocean water rushing in to submerge the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, parts of China, India and other nations, should ice shelves in Antarctica or Greenland melt and slip into the sea.

"The planet itself will do nicely, thank you very much what is at risk is human civilization," Gore said. After a series of Q& A with the audience, which had little to do with global warming and more about his political future, Annan bid "adios" to Gore.

Then, Gore had his staff opened a stack of cardboard boxes to begin selling his new book, "An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It," $19.95, to the U.N. diplomats.

What about cigars, or weed... are they responsible for the destruction of human civilization as well, or is it just cigarettes?

I love the last line about how, after his 3 hour speech, Gore and his staff start ripping open boxes of books and set-up a mini Barnes and Noble on premises.

Did the UN get a cut of the book sales?

If you read about it at a legitimate news source, you'd see it was a public lecture series that he spoke at. Not unusual to plug and sell your book at something like that.

Please post your list of your approved "legitimate" news sources.

Also, please post some links to others who lectured at UN headquarters who also were selling books.

I don't have a list, I just know who wouldn't be on it if I had one.

No clue, all I said is it's not unusual to sell books at an event such as this. However, I understand Drudge has an interest in making Gore look like a culprit whenever possible.

That reminds me: I need some more pipe tobacco and a few more Don Thomas'.
"Everything's so clear to me now: I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant. Get it? And he knows it.
That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."

What did I say about the 'global warming' theorists needing a reasonable rational spokeperson for their case?

Haven't seen one yet.

The lunatic fringe is alive and well.

Milwaukee's WISN 12 News caught workers for Vice President Al Gore's campaign giving packs of cigarettes to homeless voters that they had transported to cast absentee ballots.
TheMilwaukeeChannel.com - Cigarettes Distributed For Gore Vote

Assuming this whole thing is true... Gore is half crazy.

As for possible solutions for global warming, how about a CO2 'lockbox'.
