Screw these people.

Anybody who enters this thread and even remotely agrees with these fascists should be banned from ever owning an Apple computer for life.

On October 10, 2006, an Islamic website posted a message alerting Muslims to what it claims is a new insult to Islam. According to the message, the cube-shaped building which is being constructed in New York City, on Fifth Avenue between 58th and 59th Streets in midtown Manhattan, is clearly meant to provoke Muslims. The fact that the building resembles the Ka’ba, is called “Apple Mecca,” is intended to be open 24 hours a day like the Ka’ba, and moreover, contains bars selling alcoholic beverages, constitutes a blatant insult to Islam. The message urges Muslims to spread this alert, in hope that “Muslims will be able to stop the project.”

It is very much akin to a holy site: open 24 hours.

I usually go once a week to worship Apple products and leave feeling somehow refreshed.

Its black cothed clergy are always friendly, always willing to listen to me bare my soul and share their wisdom.

Should my faith be challenged (and my logic board fail), it is there that I turn first.

Sometimes I even make a donation and am rewarded not in the afterlife, but here on earth (heavenly iPod nano maybe?).

Source?

Considering it came from PacHead and that he's been banned from the Poli Lounge several times, I have a hard time believing that this one was made up... unless the "serves alcoholic beverages" thing is what makes it satire.

This thread is going to turn political. In fact, it already has. See Kerrigan's post, above. I still maintain that this thread belongs in the Political Lounge.

God you can find enough connections if you look hard enough.

Those people who look through the bible using letters aligned diagonally, vertically, etc., to phrophesize events after they happen -- they could probably fins one for the 5th avenue Apple store.

Well, Muslims may or may not be happy about the Apple Store. But in the mean time, at least they have more cartoons to go apeshit over.

I'd love to hear of a religion that has not resulted in deaths. Please.

Its not news because some silly website (individuals opinion) doesn't like it.

It actually appears to have stemmed from this April 10th editorial at SFGate.com Not Oct. 10th.

SFGate: Culture Blog! : All kneel before the holy holy

If it was posted at an Islamic website on Oct. 10th, it was reviving the older (non) story.

Was the store even officially called "Apple Mecca" at one point? The only places where I find these two words together are on some blog or rumor sites. Apple can't be held responsible for nicknames given by enthusiasts or other people...

Second, it it true that they serve alcoholic beverage in the store? I didn't see anything to that effect on the store's site. And furthermore, what would be the problem if they did in fact sell drinks there?

Fitzgerald: 95 things that fuel Muslim extremism
“The American presence in Iraq fuels Muslim extremism.”
-- a conclusion concluded from the National Intelligence Estimate by many concluders in solemn conclusory conclave assembled.

http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/013525.php#more

Ninety-Five Other Things That Also Fuel Muslim Extremism:

1. Salman Rushdie’s “The Satanic Verses.”
2. The British government’s protection of Salman Rushdie.
3. The American coup against Mossadegh in 1953, cited by some Iranians as the direct cause of the takeover of Iran by the Ayatollah Khomeini more than 25 years later.
4. The remarks of Pim Fortuyn about Muslim attitudes toward liberal Dutch mores.
5. The movie by Theo van Gogh about the subjection of women in Islam.
6. The election of Ayaan Hirsi Ali to the Dutch Parliament.
7. Hindus passing by mosques as Friday Prayers end.
8. The failure of Americans in Iraq to sufficiently subdue the Sunni insurgents.
9. The failure of Americans in Iraq to sufficiently subdue the Shi’a militias.
10. The failure of Americans in Iraq to sufficiently subdue the Kurdish desire for independence.
Go to the link to see the rest of the list of things that fuel Muslim extremism.

And add the Apple store to that list.

I really wish that people would at least *try* to think for twenty seconds before using the term "fascist". Overuse of the word cheapens history and, oddly, used to be pretty much a prerogative of the radical left.

It's slightly ironic to see the radical right so eager to throw it around.

Then again, PacHead's posts have always been thick with irony.

The word "fascist" does not belong only to history. To consign it to history disallows the correct observation of fascist tendencies in modern governments. To disallow such observation leads to a lessening in the ability to resist such tendencies.

Neither does the word belong to Germans... ...although, like most things you turn your hand to you tend to excel at it.

Neither does it belong to "the left"... ...especially since a lot of right-wingers are now properly educating themselves as to the correct placing of "fascism" in the political spectrum; left of centre.

I know what Steve Jobs can tell them: F... you.

This is more and more ridiculous. I looked at it and could not make out what they were whining about again.

They do not own the name mecca. It just means the highest point, not religion or muslim. They are just a bunch of lazy losers.

Wow, the people must be desperate for something to get their collective panties in a bunch over, huh? And if there is no insult, they'll just insert a few "facts" to help stir the righteous indignation up to a more desirable level.

"Apple Mecca" - The first and only time I heard the Apple Store at 5th Ave. called that was when the people said it.

"Serves alcoholic beverages" - yeah, just make up stuff, people. Why not? You're on a roll!

I guess anything shaped like the 5th Ave. Apple Store is going to be fair game for these fun-loving loonies. I might actually find their antics funny if they didn't tend to go on murderous killing sprees towards nuns, cartoonists, etc.
