Before I take the machine back to the Apple Store for servicing, I'm just trying to determine if it's just my superdrive, if it's a common problem, or if there's something extremely stupid I'm missing. The superdrive in my new 15" Alubook won't keep anything down. CD-ROM, CD-music, DVD-ROM, anything, it just spits it right back out as if the disc's surface were completely jacked up (but I know it isn't because every disc works in my G4 tower). I don't think it's software related. The console doesn't indicate that the volume was ever seen by anything. Anyone else experience something like this?

Looks like at least one other person has encountered this. See this thread in the Apple support forums.
Ugh, after waiting five months for this machine, I am NOT waiting another month while it goes through repair just after I get it...

Get a new one, do not settle for a repair job.

Just an FYI - We had this problem with my wife's new 17", as they were in VERY short supply at the time we got the drive replaced instead of a DOA replacement.
So by all means get a replacement if you wish, but a repair should be fine as well.... some other people may have had other experiences and your mileage may vary.
