Apple has appointed a new head of its business for India, following after Maneesh Dhir 's departure from the role earlier this year. The new boss, Sanjay Kaul, is now the manager of Apple India, putting Kaul in charge of a growing market that Apple is continuing to push into with its iPhones sales, with plans including the launch of Apple-owned stores in the country and selling refurbished iPhones in the region still facing some regulatory hurdles.

Spotted in a change to his LinkedIn account by Business Today, Kaul has been working for Apple's iPhone arm since November 2011, acting as the head of the iPhone business in the country. Before joining Apple, Kaul worked on behalf of BlackBerry as a director of channel sales for India for over two years, and helped to revive the Airtel BlackBerry business in the process by achieving three-digit percentage growth in net subscribers over one year.

Kaul's education includes an Msc (Tech) in Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering from BITS Pilani, before moving to the Gustavson School of Business to complete his MBA in International Business in 1998. He moved back to India from Canada in 2008, before taking his role at BlackBerry.

According to a recent report, iPhone sales in India are up year-on-year by 56 percent, while market share for the first quarter rose from 11 percent last year to 29 percent this year. By contrast, Samsung saw its market share for India dropping from 66 percent to 41 percent. In a conference call, CEO Tim Cook also suggested the ongoing rollout of LTE speeds in the country will help accelerate iPhone adoption, and that the country's telecommunications market is similar to Chinas at the end of the last decade.
